Food, Land, and People
The task force soon became a committee and they developed the idea of agricultute literacy that would extend beyond the concepts of vocational agricultute in our secondary schools. It was the goal of the committee to see agricultural education extend into all classrooms through the elementary and secondary years. The committee set five goals for the project. They are: (1) stimulate an understanding through educators among student populations of the interdependence of food, land and people, (2) create opportunities for awareness, critical thinking, and skills, (3) develop responsilble action-oriented behavior, (4) create dynamic instruction materials designed by educators fo rth euse of educators; and (5) develop a broad-cased coalition of private and public entities.
Food, Land and People, is a comprehensive agriculture program that incorporates important environmental lessons into all areas of the curriculum. It can be infused into other areas besides environment and ecology; like, science, language arts, social studies, reading, mathematics, economics, technology, the arts, etc. The program uses a variety of skill to teach students how to apply the knowledge base they have learned about food and fiber into their everyday lives.
